Google Analytics & Tag Checker

See whether a page has GA4 or Google Tag Manager installed, which measurement IDs it sends to, and which ad pixels and analytics tools load with it. Free, no account needed.

How the analytics checker works

Analytics tools leave recognisable code in a page. GA4 loads gtag/js?id=G-... and calls gtag('config', 'G-...'), Tag Manager adds its GTM- container snippet and a noscript iframe, and pixels such as Meta, LinkedIn and TikTok call their own init function with an ID. The checker reads the page's HTML and reports each ID with where it was found.

It also points out setups worth a second look: the same GA4 ID configured twice, GA4 installed directly alongside a GTM container that may fire it again, leftover Universal Analytics code, and whether a Google consent mode default is set. What it can't see is anything added after the page loads, such as a GA4 tag that lives only inside GTM. If your reports have gone quiet, our guide on why Google Analytics stops tracking walks through the usual causes.

Tracking rarely breaks on purpose. A theme update, a new cookie banner or a plugin cleanup removes the tag, the page still returns 200 OK, and nobody notices until the reports show a gap. MyKavo re-scans the pages you choose and alerts you when a known analytics or tag manager script stops loading.

A missing analytics tag costs you data you can't get back.

MyKavo watches your key pages on a schedule and sends a high-severity alert when Google Analytics, Tag Manager or another known tracking script disappears.

Frequently asked questions

How do I check if Google Analytics is installed on a website?

Enter the page URL. The checker reads the page's HTML and lists every GA4 measurement ID (G-) it finds in the gtag.js script or a gtag config call, along with Google Tag Manager containers (GTM-), Google Ads tags (AW-) and other analytics tools. If GA4 is set up only inside a GTM container, it won't appear in the HTML, and the checker says so.

Why does the checker find GTM but not GA4?

Because GA4 is configured inside the Tag Manager container. GTM loads the GA4 tag after the page starts running, so it is never written into the HTML this tool reads. To confirm GA4 fires in that setup, use GTM's Preview mode or Google Tag Assistant.

Can having GA4 and Google Tag Manager on the same page double count visits?

It can. If GA4 is installed directly with gtag.js and the GTM container also fires a GA4 tag for the same measurement ID, each page view is sent twice. The checker flags pages with both so you can check the container, and it also flags a measurement ID that is configured more than once in the page.

Is Universal Analytics still collecting data?

No. Google stopped processing data for standard Universal Analytics properties on July 1, 2023, and for Analytics 360 properties on July 1, 2024. A UA- tag still on a page sends data nowhere useful, so the checker marks it as retired and it can be removed once GA4 is in place.
